About Me

I'm Erika Núñez — native Washingtonian, daughter of immigrants, and lover of Mt. Pleasant's porch pets, block parties, and parks.

I'm running in the November 2022 election to represent Mt. Pleasant's 1D-03 district on our local Advisory Neighborhood Commission.

I care deeply about environmental stewardship, safety for our families on the road, and our community's welcoming and multicultural atmosphere.

My goal is to help Mt. Pleasant's Advisory Neighborhood Commission be effective, inclusive, and proactive for our neighborhood.

In addition to a lifetime of experience as a DC resident, I have ten years of experience in navigating the federal government and managing international community building initiatives.

I plan to reinvigorate ANC outreach and communications, propose the creation of open committees on top priorities, and ensure that key ANC materials and forums are accessible.

I aim to be an approachable & responsive commissioner who can work with residents to consider your thoughts, concerns, and ideas and turn them into actions.

What is an ANC?

Advisory Neighborhood Commissions are unpaid, non-partisan, locally elected neighborhood bodies.

ANCs have the responsibility and opportunity to be their neighborhood’s official voice in advising the District government and Federal agencies on things that affect their neighborhoods (this could be a wide range of topics, such as traffic, parking, recreation, zoning, and more).

ANCs conduct monthly public meetings, build consensus on drafted resolutions, provide constituent services, testify at hearings on behalf of their neighbors, and liaise with DC agencies to keep the neighborhood informed.‍

As described by the DC government - “The ANCs were established to bring government closer to the people, and to bring the people closer to government”

Map of ANC1D Single Member Districts

Each ANC is subdivided into smaller “Single-Member Districts” (SMD) representing about 2,000 residents, and one Commissioner is elected per SMD. For example, I am running to represent ANC's 1D03 SMD!

Mount Pleasant has seven' Single-Member-Districts (SMDs), each represented by ANCs. Not sure what district you're in? Locate your 2023 ANC and SMD

What Matters to You?

I want to hear from you! Please share what issues matter to you - I’ve included some prompts below.

  • What are your top 3 concerns you want to make sure the ANC is aware of?

  • What is your favorite thing about living in Mt. Pleasant?

  • How has your experience with your ANC and local government been so far?

You can also contribute to a neighborhood survey (link right below this section) that was drafted by some of the current ANC candidates and myself to help understand the community's interests and needs. bit.ly/3MhZs5b
